We placed our drink order and also ordered an appetizer, fried calamari. Our server came to our table immediately and was very nice. What a mistake! The restaurant was not crowded at all and we were seated immediately. Looking for a place to eat and we drove past Ballyhoos, decided to stop. My husband and I were out for a drive yesterday and ended up in Gainesville, it was around 2:30 and we were really hungry since we had not eaten all day. Maybe some day they will get their act together, but I will not go back for quite some time. This is only one example of failure after failure, where customers say to one another "you can't make this stuff up." Even more sad is that the problems have gotten progressively worse.Īfter going there once or twice per week for more than 10 years, I cannot hold on any longer. They hoped the customer would not notice. The server looked into the matter and then disclosed the reason: The kitchen ran out of chile and spaghetti sauce was the next best thing. In one instance, kitchen staff served up a bowl of spaghetti sauce, even though I ordered chile. Over the last year, there has been a near zero chance that food orders will come out correctly and nobody seems to care. Unfortunately the kitchen is now an absolute train wreck. As a result, Ballyhoo has to employ anyone who is willing to work there. It seems like many restaurants they have fallen victim to the Great Resignation, ever since reopening after the height of pandemic, whereas people-especially young people-are not willing to. Moreīallyhoo was once the pride of Gainesville-high quality and well run. The server was friendly, but in a nearly empty dining area, couldn't be found to ask for drink refills, or the spoon, sometimes. They were very bland and had an off taste, and needed some cream and butter.īananas Foster was made expertly and we always enjoy watching it being made. They tasted like the potatoes had been mashed in the water they were cooked in and then some garlic was added. The real disappointment was the garlic mashed potatoes. There was more than enough food to share and still save room for dessert There was hardly any of the sauce served, but that could have been because it was later in the evening. The tenderloin tips were a little chewy and stringy, but seasoned well. We also shared the entree, Filet Spedini. The server wasn't ours and only gave one spoon and there was no server near to ask for another one. It was salty and couldn't taste the sherry, which should give it a richer flavor. My husband and I shared a bowl of She-Crab soup. all enjoyed the dip, even though, to me, it needed salt. We also had ordered the Nawlins Shrimp as an appetizer and it was awesome. I was celebrating my birthday and was excited to have their Bananas Foster, made at the table side by our waitress.
